Resources 1: Anatomy (General)

These posts are to be updated with more material as I uncover/remember it. I try to use mainly lesser-known resources, however, some popular ones are simply too good to skim over. For this first post, I have a simple selection of personal favorites to share!

ProkoTV; Youtube

  1. One of the best free art resources available. Offers many resources on his Youtube channel but also offers a Subscription to more resources on his Website. He also invites many talented artists onto his channel to share insight and personal experiences within their own art.

  2. Gesture - Anatomy; playlist that details boxing in the human shape and understanding the human mass and its gesture. Best to watch the entire video and understand the content then rewatch and follow along via drawing/notes. Watch this before his anatomy course.

  3. Human Anatomy - One of his most popular playlists that currently holds over 4 million views. Details many sketches and building foundations for bones and muscles. Best to watch the entire video and understand the content then rewatch and follow along via drawing/notes. Watch his gesture course first.

Alphonso Dunn - YouTube

  1. Underrated art source that has slowly been gaining popularity over the years. He is a highly skilled ink-based artist with many tutorials ranging from Urban sketching, ink techniques, and demos.

  • Gesture; Playlist in which he details techniques on gesture and various examples.

  • Anatomy; Small 2 video series that detail stretch/pull of muscles and more details on how it works specifically.

Croquis Cafe - YouTube

  1. Timed lapsed videos that feature nude models posing for gestures and figure drawing practice.

Adorastock - DeviantArt (Previously SenshiStock)

  1. Human drawing stock artist. With her friends, she has helped create thousands of images for artists to reference. These images have many poses from realistic, fantasy, flying, fighting, sitting, group interaction, sword use, and more!

Kibbitzer - DeviantArt

  1. Useful artist that supplies an abundance of drawn references. Nice to use as a beginner but not as good as using real people/references. Also has a Patreon for exclusive reference content.

AshenCreative - Deviantart

  1. A stock of references with human and animal skulls in a variety of positions and lighting.

Andrew Loomis - Wayback Machine Archive (Books)

  1. One of the most inspiring and well-known artists for his tutorials, Loomis is an invaluable source to the art community who has brought forth a variety of useful art methods and techniques (such as the Loomis Head style illustrated by Proko)

  2. Figure Drawing for All It’s Worth

  3. Successful Drawing

  4. Drawing the Head & Hands

  5. Extra

Roberto Osti - Book (Snippet from his Site)

  1. A personal favorite of mine, this book goes over layer by layer of human muscles and bones showing in vivid detail how each works and goes into each other. It contains written explanations and details on what is happening to follow along.

  2. He also has a selection of other books that seem promising! I have only known him for this one but if anyone else tries the others let me know what you think! I don't have a PDF of this book unfortunately but I must say, it is by far a favorite to carry around!
